Something can be staring you in the face…. like that “new” stop sign on the corner that has been there for 6 months. Now that you had the experience of missing it, having your car insurance premium increase, and have to pay for the bumper to be repaired, you suddenly seem to be surrounded by stop signs!
Why does this happen? Because we reach points in our life when we are ready for new information. Until that time, something could be staring us in the face but we don’t see it. The only time most of us learn is when we get hit upside the head with it. Why? Because it is easier for us to not change, so we keep doing what we always do until we hit that proverbial brick wall.
We learn our biggest lessons when things get tough. Success is great, but we don’t learn as much. Now failure, that hurts! And its when we get educated. In retrospect, we often realize that ‘disasters’ are turning points. Sometimes we look back on the ‘disaster’ as the best thing that could have happened to us. For example, Bob gets fired. Unable to find a job, he starts his own business. For the first time he is his own boss and is doing what he really wants to do. He still has his problems, but he is happy- his life has purpose and meaning- all from an apparent disaster.
The universe is always nudging us with mild nudges. When we ignore these, it nudges us with a wallop. Growth is most painful when we resist it. “We are not here to be punished. We are here to be educated. Every event has the potential to transform us, and disasters have the greatest potential to change our thinking. Act as if every event has a purpose, and your life will have purpose. Figure out why you needed an experience, conquer it, and you won’t need it again.”
