Research is starting to show more about the benefits of good nutrition in preventing and dealing with depression. The field of nutritional psychiatry has emerged in recent years and is gaining momentum. A diet high in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish and unprocessed lean red meat is recommended, whereas a diet high in refined and processed foods increases the risk for depression in children and adults.
