Mental Health Awareness Week

The first full week of October was assigned in 1990 by the United States Congress as Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW).

This year MIAW was October 4th-10th. The theme for this year was “I am Stigma Free!” You can go still to the NAMI website to take the Stigma Free pledge. If you are interested in learning more about stigma reduction efforts in our community, please contact Mental Health America of Sheboygan County at 920-458-3951.

In our local community there is an Art Show currently running to help bring attention to mental illness in the incarcerated population. It is displayed Monday-Friday at UW-Sheboygan in the fine arts building until the end of October and focuses on Grief and Loss. The Open Door Drop in Center has activities throughout the week you can participate in if you are an adult. The Open Door is located in Sheboygan at 817 N 8th Street. You can find out more about their programming at the Mental Health America of Sheboygan County website.

Share your story with a loved one, read an article, or find another creative way to get involved with Mental Health Awareness in your community. You make a difference!
